Orange Coast College Is Constructing A New Planetarium Due To Generous Donations

Excitement is in the air at Orange College due to the construction in progress for their new planetarium. The funding for the project received a substantial boost when one of their previous teachers donated $1 million.

Mary McChesney’s generosity allows for a Foucault pendulum so the Earth’s rotation can be demonstrated. Since this will be the only pendulum of this type in the area Orange Coast College is looking forward to the scientific studies that will now be possible.

According to Mary McChesney her advanced age has not dimmed her love for the Orange Coast College and she wanted to help them achieve a future filled with excitement.

She made her donation in memory of her partner Adelyn Bonin who taught German at the college until her retirement in 1983. Ms. McChesney stated that half of the donation belonged to her partner and she was certain she was watching and smiling in approval.

Mary McChesney was an instructor in Spanish and English for 33 years and continued to contribute to the college after retirement. Although there were rumors of her upcoming donation the generous amount was a surprise for the college.

The new planetarium was officially underway in 2016 and the older version from the 1950’s was demolished. Technology dictated the college was in need of a new planetarium.

There will be adequate seating for 129 as well as an exhibit hall. The project has a projected cost of $20 million and should be completed in time for the fall semester in 2018.

The campus of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa covers 164 acres and is close to the lovely beaches of Southern California. The college began educating students in 1948 and is considered one of the best community colleges in Orange County.

Every semester 25,000 students walk through the doors to receive their educations. The facilities at Orange Coast College are excellent and they offer the latest available in technology.

They have a total of 135 programs for career and academics including an advanced nautical program. Almost half of the students attending the college enroll in one of these programs.

Normann Pattiz Makes Public Edison Research’s Studies on PodcastOne’s Brand Lift

Normann Pattiz, the executive Chair of PodcastOne alongside Tom Webster, the strategy VP at Edison Research publicized the results of a number of studies they had been carrying out.

The comprehensive studies were conducted on five main consumer brands spread across diverse categories of products and services to check how their advertisements were performing. This study was the first of its kind and was carried out before and after the campaigns run.

The studies considered podcast advertising’s impact on intent to purchase, brand and specific messaging recall in the last half of the year 2016. The studies revealed a number of key findings on podcast advertising.


Edison Research was involved in three different studies at the request of PodcastOne to check the effectiveness that podcast advertising had on five select national brands. The brands studied had been in the market for some time and were launching new messages while some of the less-known were either conducting a trial or seeking increased awareness.

The studies were conducted before the campaign advertisements run and again after they had been featured on PodcastOne for around four to six weeks. These studies posted positive news on the effectiveness of choosing podcast advertising. They showed an increased reception of the brand messages by the audiences and willingness to either purchase of consider the brands.


Normann Pattiz revealed that his company remained focused on verifying autonomously the impact that podcast advertising had on brands beyond the conventional marketing methods. He added that the just released results showed that their multi-tiered approach was paying off handsomely.

Tom Webster, on his part, stated that it was a great honor working with PodcastOne in the studies to independently test the impact that podcast advertising had on a brand. He commented on the methodology they applied stating that it allowed them to conduct studies before and after the advertisement campaigns run to show the correct effectiveness.

End Citizens United Big Projections are a Positive Thing

How The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Is Helping To Mitigate Traffic Issues

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) was established in 2002 in order to deal with the traffic woes that plague the region. One of the main problems the area faces is that most of the growth in population is in the suburbs of Austin while the job growth is mainly in Austin. As most people are heading the same direction twice a day traffic is usually very heavy and slow. The CTRMA finds mobility solutions in order to get people where they’re going faster. This can be include building roads, variable toll rates, and other technological solutions.

The new MoPac Express Lanes make use of variable tolling which is designed to keep these lanes uncongested. The lanes can analyze supply and demand on the lanes which results in the cost driving in them to go up during heavy traffic in order to encourage people to stay out of the lanes unless they really need to be in them.

The CTRMA is also working to build “smart roads“. They are laying down fiber lines in the road between US 290 and the airport which will allow the next generation of cars to be able to “talk” to it. Drivers can be alerted to traffic problems ahead such as accidents. It will also notify the driver if they start going the wrong way on a freeway exit ramp.

Soon there will also be a traffic app that is being built in a partnership between the CTRMA and Metropia. This app will give commuters alternative routes to use. Another partnership with Carma is resulting in a carpooling app which will make it quick and easy to find other people to commute with.

The Executive Director of the CTRMA is Mike Heiligenstein. He was appointed to this position by the Governor of Texas when the CTRMA was established. He works with a 6 member board of directors which is made up of equal numbers of people appointed by Williamson and Travis counties. The agency itself has a small staff as it uses private contractors to perform each individual project.

As a nationally recognized expert on infrastructure and mobility issues, Mike Heiligenstein is often invited to speak to other groups around the nation that are facing the same issues as the CTRMA is.
